Teak wood furniture is hardwood furniture made from the wood of the Tectona grandis tree. The common English name for this tree species is “teak”. It is a deciduous tree that is native to India and Southeast Asia and is now cultivated in other tropical areas such as Central America. The properties of teak wood make it particularly well-suited to use as outdoor furniture, where it has a longer lifespan than most other varieties of wood.
Teak wood graded 'A' is the wood taken from the heart of the trunk where teak oil is much more concentrated. Also 'A' grade teak has more silica and rubber making it more resistant to water and insects. Coming from the heart of the teak log also means that your won't find as many knots in the wood. This means that the wood's texture is more uniform and resistant. The colour is also deeper boasting a gorgeous golden brown colour. 'A' grade teak is, consequently, more expensive than B or C grade teak.
Teak wood graded 'B' is taken from the outer part of the heart of the tree. It still has a fairly good concentration of natural oils and is used for making furniture. The touch is not a smooth and is less shiny than 'A' grade teak.
Teak wood graded 'C' is the lowest quality teak and taken from the outer part of the teak log.
Although not entirely waterproof, teak wood is high in naturally occurring protective oils, making it highly resistant to the detrimental effects of moisture, such as rotting, warping and cracking.
Leaving your teak furniture untreated will allow it to weather naturally and develop a silvery-grey patina that will blend beautifully into its surroundings. You can bring about that weathered, silvery-grey look more quickly and evenly by using our Teak Patinizer, which will also help to prevent growth of algae.Should you wish to, you can delay the weathering process by using our Teak Protector which will help to maintain the honey-gold colour of teak.
Teak furniture is an ideal choice for outdoor spaces as it boasts a sturdy build and is quite long-lasting. Nevertheless, it can be employed indoors and adds an exquisite touch to conservatories, entryways, bathrooms, kitchens, and more. Do note that given teak's organic nature, maintaining an indoor temperature may impact the wood's character.
Most of our dining tables feature a hole that's pre-drilled at the center to facilitate the insertion of a parasol. The teak stopper is made to sit flush with the table top to minimize its conspicuousness. The stopper on the table top can be removed by tapping softly from underneath. This technique will prevent any splintering while the stopper pops out effortlessly.
Yes our Lazy Susan Have a parasol Hole and the Lazy Susan will still turn.
We advise that the cushions are shower proof and would recommend that they are not left out in the rain.
We would recommend removing the parasol when its not in use as this will prevent damage being caused by sudden winds.

Surface mould is a common side effect that teak furniture develops, travelling from tropical climates at certain times of year. Shipments spend up to 8 weeks on the water in these humid conditions. Whilst precautionary measures are taken to avoid any of the fur occurring, it is impossible to completely prevent it. Although initially, this may seem disappointing, please rest assured, this will not cause any long term damage and can be removed with a minor wipe or brush over.

As teak weathers, it will turn from its honey-gold colour to a silvery-grey patina. This is completely natural and normal, and happens as a result of exposure to rain and UV rays from the sun. This weathering process is totally cosmetic and will not affect the integrity of your teak garden furniture.
Teak requires very little maintenance apart from the occasional scrub. A mild solution of soapy water or a diluted mixture of teak restore kit and water will remove accumulated dirt. This should be followed by a rinse with clean water. To remove grease spots, a light scrub with a de-greasing agent is recommended.
You can leave teak untreated and allowing the wood to adjust to the climate of your space. You can apply a teak sealant to prevent surface stains and watermarks and clean the teak with soap and water as often as it ages.
Teak wood contains natural oils which help prevent it from rotting or deteriorating even in a marine environment. These oils can also cause teak to turn grey or black due to mould and mildew feeding upon the oil.
To maintain the luster of teak furniture, it is essential to clean it annually and eliminate any grime, filth, or blemishes that have accumulated. This is a straightforward task that can be accomplished with a diluted household cleaner and a bristle brush. It is also recommended to use our teak cleaning kit. It's inevitable that your furniture will encounter problems like red wine spillage and salad dressing drips. When that happens, make sure you have a teak cleanser on hand to eliminate the stain. In more serious situations, such as unsightly scratches, a gentle sanding may be necessary. Please see our Teak care section for more information.
We recommend that you use warm soapy water and a cleaning brush to hand clean the covers.
Teak is Long-Lasting: There are century-old teak benches in some of the parks in Europe. This is an evidence to the durability of this wood.
All of the teak wood used in the manufacture of our furniture is FLEGT licensed this guarantees that timber has been harvested, processed and exported in accordance with national laws. Indonesia is the first exporting country to mandate that its timber comply with certain legal requirements to be exported. The FLEGT license, thus, is a regulatory approach to suppress illegal logging.
The idea of FLEGT was established in 2003 by the EU following the Ministerial Conference in Bali in 2001 regarding Forest Law Enforcement and Governance, where participant countries declared they would collaboratively address illegal logging and associated illegal trade and corruption as well as uphold the rule of law related to those issues. As for the implementation of FLEGT, the EU established an Action Plan to prevent illegally sourced timber from entering the EU and to promote initiatives and policies by partner countries, private companies and financial institutions to develop systems that only allow legally produced timber to enter the market.
We are proud to say that the Teak used in all of our furniture is fully sustainable. Be aware, some more cheaply made furniture may be from unreputable sources and therefore not sustainable.
Production forests on Java have evolved into intensively and strictly managed plantations. Management of these lands (4.9 million acres of plantations in 54 forest management districts, mostly in teak) is undertaken directly by the state, through the State Forestry Corporation (SFC), Perum Perhutani.
These sustainable plantations are managed & owned and by the government who have a strict policy regarding the size, age, and number of trees felled each year, together with a comprehensive, sustainable replanting program. They assure the sustainability and legality of their teak through SVLK certification.
We have SVLK certification (allowing our furniture to be sold in confidence throughout the world) and are firmly committed to the values of equal opportunity and corporate social responsibility – through the continuing professional development and the skills and wellbeing of our staff.
Trees4Trees™ is a program of Sustainable Green Earth Foundation (Yayasan Bumi Hijau Lestari) and are a non-profit foundation.
